Matsu

Designed by Moruba, a design agency based in Spain.
Matsu is a modern a project for sustainable viticulture that brings together a unique collection of high expression wines.

The solution adopted is faithful to Matsu's philosophy, his image has been stripped from all sorts of tricks to link directly with nature and with the people who cares about it. Thus, the Matsu's wine triology, ‘El Pícaro’, ‘El Recio’ and ‘El Viejo’ are represented by a portraits series of three generations that devote their lives to the field. Each one personality's embodies the characteristics of the wine that gets its name.

The renowned photographers, Bèla Adler and Salvador Fresneda, have been chosen by Moruba for the portraits realisation that brings life to the characters of Matsu.

Silver Hills Bakery

DDB Canada's Karacters Design Group recently re branded Silver Hills Bakery's personality with colorful, biodegradable bags which feature witty illustrations by Robert Hanson. I would say this is really out of the box branding experience, never had thought of seeing character illustrations on bread packages and I would say they really speak volumes! A big thanks to Kumiko of RadarDDB for notifying us on these awesome bread packaging.

Sun Microsystems Packaging

Thanks to Brian Wen of Continuum for sending in their design of this Sun Sustainable out-of-box experience. Continuum is a design and innovation consultancy firm with offices embedded in North America, Europe and Asia,
A recently rebranded Sun needed to communicate a company-wide sustainability initiative and provide an innovative out-of-box experience for their T2000 server line.

The packaging had to appeal to a different type of IT user: the eco-savvy and price point conscious Web 2.0 start up. Installation and unwrapping needed to be clear and easy. Because of this, a new set of challenges was at hand for the designers. The large rack-mounted units are heavy (adding a set of human factors considerations), came with a set of oddly shaped accessories (that needed to be presented appropriately to the user) and required (because of a unique sales and specification process) the product to be accessed by a 3rd party reseller before being delivered to the end user. The final result was one that reduced potential waste, remained true to the brand and appealed aesthetically and practically to all stakeholders.

Citro (Student Work)

Designed by Beth Coller, a student at Kutztown University -- graduating in December 2009 with a BFA in Communcation Design.

Sometimes - Fold Only CD Pocket

This CD package was designed and letterpress printed by Studio On Fire for Erik Brandt with illustrations by Andy DeVore. Studio On Fire is a hybrid design and letterpress workspace in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Erik Brandt put this CD together after spending a year teaching in Hungary. The structure houses both a fold up lyric sheet and a CD. We printed the packaging with two ink colors on 140lb French Poptone. The design keeps cost down because the panels all print on one side only and the fold up design allows for a do-it-yourself assembly. We finished it on our 13 x 18 Windmill with unique shaped die cuts on the flaps.

Gatsby Moving Rubber

Thanks to Sean Maisch for sending in his lovely proposed packaging work for Gatsby Moving Rubber! He will be graduating from SCAD in May.
This package is a proposed design for Mandom Corporation’s Gatsby product line of Moving Rubber hair wax. In order to better align myself with the Asian (specifically Japanese) job market, I wanted to design something popular and prevalent in Asian culture and society. I challenged myself with this project by choosing a subject that must be designed to successfully integrate into both Eastern and Western cultures. My previous travels in Japan and Thailand have contributed to my understanding of how a product like this can be marketed internationally and appeal to a broad demographic.
